Hey Everyone! My name is Alison McCourt, but everybody just calls me Ali.  I’ll be your Public Affairs Director, this year. This department can run very smoothly based on your participation with assignments and your cooperation with community service events. I expect good communication within the department. If you have any questions, or are unable to make a day, feel comfortable to ask for help.

Syllabus:

What is the Public Affairs Dept. really about?

-To some of you public affairs may sound simple to understand but I will explain it more in relation to a department of the radio station. It is essentially creating a level of communication with the public to inform our listeners.

- Responsible for the creation of informative programs to later air on the designated time slot for public affairs programming.

- Use of two different formats for program. One is the question of the day format, where we find a credible person to answer our question and produce a high quality program to air. Another format is the debate format where you need to find two credible people to debate about a topic. Your group would then be involved in mediation and question to keep the program rolling, moving onto the next question. You will learn more about the production of these programs at our meetings.

How is your work evaluated?

-All assignments will be done in groups so you are required to be there to participate with the group until your assignment is complete. Sign-in when you meet so I am able to evaluate you more accurately on attendance and participation. If you miss two days of your slot assignment you will get a bad evaluation

- Since, I may not be at the station when your group decides to meet, I want each student, not group, to e-mail, call, IM me once a week and let me know the group’s progress and your personal contribution to the group that week.

- You will also need to attend a min. of 2 community service hours. I will give extra credit if you show up to more than 2 events.

-Practicum meets once a month, where you will be given evaluations. Evaluating is a pretty easy process. If a first timer, please read the instructions carefully, and turn them into me the Friday following the practicum meeting by dropping of the evaluation in my mailbox found in the radio station lobby. If late, points will be deducted. And If you have any additional questions about the eval, you can contact me.
