Hola a todos!!! Hi everyone and welcome to the
News Department.
The News Department is a place
where students can gain experience for a future career in mass media by
learning and practicing the various valuable skills required to work in this
field.
Different events on campus and
in the local community will allow each student to meet with local or national
artists, politicians, professionals, and community leaders. Access to important
events and key people may take place in this department. Quality, creativity, honesty, respect, collaboration,
and fun are all values of the News Department.
a) Each
student will gather and report a variety of news 2 or 3 times per week between 11:00
am and 4:00 pm.
Once
a week (after being trained) each student is required to pre-record and broadcast
the news.
For news delivery:
1. Please be at the station 15-20 minutes before
your scheduled newscast.
2. News must include national, international,
local or state, business, entertainment, and
3. Students are also responsible for the weather
forecast during their news broadcast.
4. All news reports broadcast must be edited and
turned in (e-mail or print version) to the news director’s
mailbox.
5. The newscast should be at least 10 minutes
long.
6. Students can obtain their news stories from
the Internet (CNN, FOX News, Univision) or from the
local newspaper and AP news line in the office.
7. Students will be professional when reporting
the news and will not use profanity, slander, or personal opinions.
b) If
the student cannot attend his or her news broadcast, a substitute should be
found ahead of time. In addition, please notify the news director, by e-mail or
telephone. Please be in contact with the news director at least once a week.
c) Three
assignments will be given throughout the semester, one each evaluation period.
d)
Students are
required to attend two community
service events.
Thank you for being a part of
the News Department.
Enjoy your time and have a
great experience at WVYC!
